Jane and Eli,
Your gentle, caring, loving and rock solid man was taken from you too early. Seth was a teacher, an artist but more importantly, he was your hubby and daddy. I cannot express well the feelings I am having, but I want you to know that I am thinking of you both every minute. I wish you love and peace.

Dear Jane and Eli, (and Ernie, Anne, Keki, Marilyn, Fred, Ken, Cheryl, and all family & friends of Seth),
Don and I were so very sorry, and saddened, to hear of Seth’s death. There are no words to convey our sorrow, and to adequately show our care for you. Please know we are thinking of you all so often, and wishing you peace and comfort. We saw that Seth, your husand, and father of Eli, had just received a Creative Workforce Fellowship for his art–which we saw on online, and admired so much. It is such an incredible loss, and on the heels of the loss of your dear mother & grandmother, our wonderful “Aunt Gladie.”
I (Sandy) have such fond memories of the time that I spent with Jane & Seth in Wash DC, while attending a conference. You lived by the WA zoo, and I slept to the sound of gorillas and your African parrot imitating sirens and other city noises. Seth (and Jane) used their art to do some creative photo art, putting the face of our son Paul on the body of a professional baseball player, and the face of our daughter Jenna on a pilgrim girl. I just found those pictures when we were moving to New York, but can’t find it at this moment. It is a wonderful symbol of the way we knew Seth, his warm and loving spirit, infused with his creativity and caring, making each person feel loved and special. We will make a donation to his memory to the Center for American Progress. In the meantime, we send much love. Even though we cannot be there Sunday, we will be with you all in spirit.

Jane and Eli-
So sorry for your loss. Seth truly was a great man in many ways, and will be sorely missed.
Thank you so much for posting the memorial service- hearing all the speakers tell stories of Seth brought back a lot of fond memories of my time in DC. Proving once again that life is bittersweet, the stories from friends and family made me laugh and cry out loud at the same time in a way I haven’t done in quite a long while.
Keeping you in our thoughts and prayers,

Dear Jane:
I was shocked to read about Seth’s passing today in the Post.
I feel lucky to have known Seth and to have worked with him back in the U St days. The last time I saw him he was excitedly describing Eli’s adoption and what a fantastic experience it was for you both.
Ginny and I were saddened by this terrible news and our thoughts are with you and Eli.
Sincerely,

Dear Jane – I was so sorry to hear about Seth. I still remember him framing some of my paintings for a show at DFA without charging anything – just for the sake of the art – that’s the type of person he was. He will be greatly missed and my thoughts are with you.
Take care,
Jim Harrison

Dear Rosenberg Family,
I recently learned of Seth’s passing from Dennis Zaborowski, my colleague here at UNC-Chapel Hill. I met Seth just before you all moved from DC – he kindly hosted an exhibition of a portfolio I put together during the Southern Graphics Council meeting held in DC in 2005. During our discussions for the show I learned that he was an alum of ours. Although I only knew him briefly, it was enough to know just how generous and talented he was.
We here in Chapel Hill send our heartfelt sympathies to you all.

Dear Jane,
A memory I want to share with you, about your dear fun and funny Seth: A number of years ago at a birthday party (of Michael’s) Gabriel could not stop blurting out answers, words or simply sounds. It frustrated me, but humored Seth. We had recently learned of what to call Gabriel’s struggles. William and I were concerned and even scared for our little guy, but Seth simply said, “He’ll be ok. He’s special. Just love him.” Seth you were so right and we love him tons – thanks for the seeing it correctly and calling me on it. That was the kind of man he was…
Love,
Bradley

I had seen a couple weeks ago an announcement with Seth’s name for the “I of the Text” exhibition at the Riffe Center in Columbus, OH. I remembered he had emailed me with his relocation to Cleveland and with me being in Chillicothe, OH, we should get together. Wow, what a shock when I googled his name to congradulate him on his work being in the Riffe. What a shock! For all his friends and family, I am deeply saddened by the loss of a wonderful man and artist.
I hope he finally got around to forgiving me for being a part of our missing out on Professor Longhair’s jazz funeral. We had taken a van load of UNC grad students down for the CAA conference in New Orleans in 1980 and I had the keys to the van. By the time I had reconnected with the UNC group I was told of the missed opportunity. When I get home I’ll put on Longhair’s “Walk Your Blues Away” and ponder the way life leaves us feeling uncertain during these twists of fate. Then I’ll look at Seth’s smiling face and remenber why we keep pushing forward.
